This is a multi-agent chemotherapy and immunotherapy combination regimen composed of five drugs: - Cisplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapeutic that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. - Interferon-alpha (alpha-interferon), an immunomodulatory cytokine that enhances the immune response against tumor cells and can have direct antiproliferative effects. - Interleukin-2, a cytokine therapy that stimulates proliferation and activation of T lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells, promoting antitumor immunity. - Mitomycin-C, an alkylating agent that induces DNA crosslinking and inhibits DNA synthesis in cancer cells. - Vinblastine, a vinca alkaloid chemotherapeutic that inhibits microtubule formation during mitosis, arresting cell division. This combination has been investigated primarily for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) as well as other solid tumors. The rationale for combining these agents is to exploit potential synergistic cytotoxicity between chemotherapy drugs (cisplatin, mitomycin-c, vinblastine) and the immunostimulatory effects of interferon-alpha and interleukin-2[1][3][5].
