Overview

The combination of cisplatin, mitomycin (as mitomycin C), and vinblastine—commonly referred to as the MVP regimen—is a platinum-based chemotherapy protocol used primarily for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and metastatic breast cancer. Each component has a distinct mechanism of action: - Cisplatin is a platinum-containing compound that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis by inhibiting DNA synthesis and function. - Mitomycin C is an alkylating agent that also induces DNA crosslinking and inhibits DNA synthesis. - Vinblastine is a vinca alkaloid that disrupts microtubule formation during cell division, arresting cells in metaphase. This combination has demonstrated antitumor activity with moderate toxicity profiles. It offers symptom palliation in advanced NSCLC and has shown efficacy in metastatic breast cancer patients previously treated with anthracyclines or taxanes[1][2][4][5].
