Overview

Cisplatin and oxaliplatin are platinum-based chemotherapy drugs that are sometimes used in combination for cancer treatment. Both drugs work by forming DNA crosslinks, particularly intrastrand and interstrand crosslinking, which interferes with DNA replication and leads to cell death. While they share similar mechanisms, oxaliplatin has a different chemical structure with a diamino cyclohexane (DACH) group that prevents cross-resistance with cisplatin. This combination may provide enhanced cell kill in certain cancer types, though it can also increase the risk of side effects.
