Cisplatin + paclitaxel is a combination chemotherapy regimen, often referred to as the TP regimen, utilized in the treatment of various malignancies, including cervical cancer. Cisplatin is a platinum-based antineoplastic agent that functions by forming covalent bonds with DNA bases, resulting in intra-strand and inter-strand cross-links that inhibit DNA synthesis and transcription, ultimately triggering apoptosis. Paclitaxel is a taxane that promotes the assembly of microtubules from tubulin dimers and stabilizes them by preventing depolymerization; this stability inhibits the normal dynamic reorganization of the microtubule network that is essential for vital interphase and mitotic cellular functions. In the context of the Phase III trial led by Rajkumar Kottayasamy Seenivasagam, this combination is evaluated as a neoadjuvant or concurrent therapy for patients with early-stage bulky cervical cancer (FIGO stages IB2, IIA2, and IIB).
