Overview
The combination of cisplatin and raltitrexed is a chemotherapy regimen studied for various cancer types. Cisplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapy agent, while raltitrexed (also known by the brand name Tomudex) is a thymidylate synthase inhibitor belonging to the antimetabolite class of cytotoxic drugs. This combination is rational due to their distinct mechanisms of action. Cisplatin forms DNA crosslinks, interfering with cell division, while raltitrexed specifically inhibits thymidylate synthase, an enzyme crucial for DNA synthesis. This dual approach aims to enhance therapeutic efficacy by disrupting cancer cell replication through different pathways.
