Cisplatin + teniposide is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two antineoplastic agents, cisplatin and teniposide. Cisplatin is a platinum-based alkylating agent that exerts its cytotoxic effects primarily by forming DNA cross-links, thereby inhibiting DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell death. Teniposide is a topoisomerase II inhibitor that induces single- and double-stranded breaks in DNA by stabilizing the topoisomerase II-DNA complex, preventing cells from entering mitosis. This combination has been studied for use in various cancers, including small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) and advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), where it has demonstrated improved response rates and survival compared to monotherapy with either agent alone but at the cost of increased toxicity[1][3]. Both drugs are administered intravenously.
