Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cissus quadrangularis + Irvingia gabonensis is an oral combination dietary supplement formulated from extracts of two plants: Cissus quadrangularis, a succulent vine native to Africa and Asia, and Irvingia gabonensis, also known as African mango. This combination has been investigated for weight loss and metabolic health in overweight and obese individuals. Clinical studies indicate that this combination has synergistic effects, leading to larger reductions in body weight, body fat, waist size, plasma cholesterol (total and LDL), and fasting blood glucose compared to either agent alone or placebo. The compounds in Cissus quadrangularis appear to have antioxidant properties and may inhibit pancreatic lipase and amylase, thus reducing fat and carbohydrate absorption. Irvingia gabonensis seeds have demonstrated hypocholesterolemic, hypoglycemic, anti-lipase, and anti-amylase activities, along with antioxidant effects. The combination targets multiple aspects of metabolic syndrome including lipid metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, and oxidative stress, though precise molecular targets are still under study[1][2][5].
