Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cistanche Tongbian Oral Liquid is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) botanical drug primarily used for the treatment of constipation, particularly chronic functional constipation in elderly patients or those exhibiting 'kidney yang deficiency' and 'blood deficiency' according to TCM principles. The primary active ingredient is an extract of *Cistanche deserticola* (Rou Cong Rong), a parasitic plant rich in phenylethanoid glycosides (such as echinacoside and acteoside) and polysaccharides. The formulation is designed to moisten the large intestine and promote bowel movements without the harsh purgative effects of stimulant laxatives. It is believed to work by regulating water metabolism in the colon and supporting the health of interstitial cells of Cajal, thereby improving intestinal motility.
