Citalopharm

Citalopharm is a brand-name generic version of citalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) primarily indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder. In clinical research conducted by the Hadassah Medical Organization, Citalopharm was investigated for its potential pharmacodynamic interaction with the antiplatelet agent clopidogrel in patients with coronary artery disease. Unlike some other SSRIs, such as fluvoxamine, citalopram does not significantly inhibit the CYP2C19 enzyme, which is responsible for the metabolic activation of clopidogrel. The study aimed to determine if Citalopharm could inhibit platelet aggregation through serotonin reuptake inhibition in platelets without interfering with the pharmacokinetic activation of clopidogrel, potentially offering a safer antidepressant option for cardiac patients.
