This is a combination therapy consisting of citalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant, and omega-3 fatty acids (primarily eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA] and docosahexaenoic acid [DHA]). Citalopram increases serotonin levels in the brain by inhibiting its reuptake into presynaptic cells. Omega-3 fatty acids are thought to exert antidepressant effects through several mechanisms including anti-inflammatory actions, modulation of cell membrane fluidity affecting neurotransmitter function, and direct interaction with mood-related molecules in the brain. This combination has been studied as an augmentation strategy for major depressive disorder (MDD), with evidence suggesting improved efficacy over monotherapy[1][2][5]. The combination is not marketed under a unique brand name but may be used off-label or in clinical research settings.
