Citalopram + tipepidine is a combination of two small molecule drugs. Citalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used primarily for the treatment of depression and major depressive disorder. It works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin in the brain, thereby increasing its availability and enhancing serotonergic neurotransmission[1][2][3]. Tipepidine is an antitussive agent (cough suppressant) that acts as a non-opioid central cough suppressant, believed to exert its effect through inhibition of G-protein-coupled inwardly rectifying potassium channels (GIRK), though it may also have some serotonergic activity. The combination would theoretically provide both antidepressant effects from citalopram and cough suppression from tipepidine; however, there are no widely recognized or approved fixed-dose combinations of these two agents.
