Overview
Citasoxacin is a novel fluoroquinolone antibiotic developed by Hainan Hualong Pharmaceutical for the treatment of acute bacterial infections. It functions by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, which are essential enzymes for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in China, specifically comparing its efficacy and safety to levofloxacin in patients with acute respiratory tract infections (such as community-acquired pneumonia and acute bronchitis) and urinary tract infections (such as acute pyelonephritis and cystitis).
