Citrafleet

Citrafleet is a low-volume bowel preparation product used for cleansing the colon prior to elective colonoscopy or other diagnostic procedures. It is a combination of two active components: sodium picosulphate, a stimulant laxative that acts locally in the colon to increase peristalsis, and magnesium citrate (formed in solution from magnesium oxide and citric acid), which acts as an osmotic laxative by drawing water into the intestinal lumen. This dual mechanism promotes bowel evacuation. It was developed and is manufactured by Casen Recordati and has been evaluated in various clinical trials, including those comparing its efficacy and patient tolerability against polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based solutions.
