Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Citramel is an experimental inhaled small molecule therapy developed by Breathe Easy Limited for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF). Delivered via nebulizer, Citramel is designed to dissolve the protective biofilms within the thick mucus that accumulates in the lungs of CF patients. By disrupting this biofilm matrix, the drug aims to thin the mucus and enhance the penetration and effectiveness of co-administered antibiotics and the patient's own immune system. Unlike many CF therapies that target the CFTR protein, Citramel targets the physical structure of the mucus/biofilm environment. It has been evaluated in Phase 1/IIa clinical trials for safety and tolerability.
