Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Citrupress** is the brand name for an intravenous formulation of L-citrulline, a non-essential amino acid naturally produced in the body and found in watermelon. L-citrulline is converted to L-arginine, which serves as a precursor to nitric oxide (NO), promoting vascular smooth muscle relaxation, improving blood flow, and potentially reducing pulmonary hypertension. Developed by Asklepion Pharmaceuticals under license from Vanderbilt University, it is primarily investigated for preventing clinical sequelae of acute lung injury induced by cardiopulmonary bypass in pediatric patients undergoing surgery for congenital heart defects, such as prolonged mechanical ventilation and inotrope use.[2][4][5][12][17]
