Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Citrus IntegroPectin is a family of flavonoid-pectin bioconjugates obtained via hydrodynamic or acoustic cavitation of industrial citrus processing waste (such as orange, lemon, and grapefruit peels) in water. This green extraction process yields a low-methoxyl pectin backbone rich in rhamnogalacturonan-I (RG-I) 'hairy' regions, functionalized with adsorbed citrus flavonoids (such as hesperidin, naringin, and eriocitrin) and terpenes. Citrus IntegroPectin exhibits a broad range of biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties. In preclinical models, it has demonstrated cell-specific antitumor activity against lung and breast cancer cells by inducing apoptosis, reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS), upregulating miR-146, and downregulating interleukin-8 (IL-8).
