Overview
Citrus sinensis peel extract is a botanical product derived from the peel of the sweet orange. It is currently being investigated as an adjunctive therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia. The extract is rich in bioactive polyphenols and flavonoids, such as hesperidin and polymethoxylated flavones, which are thought to exert antidiabetic and lipid-lowering effects. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes like alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase, as well as the modulation of lipid metabolism through pathways such as PPAR signaling.
