Overview

Civacir is a human polyclonal immune globulin product enriched with antibodies against the hepatitis C virus (HCV). It is designed to prevent recurrence of HCV infection in patients undergoing liver transplantation due to HCV-induced end-stage liver disease. Civacir is derived from pooled plasma of donors with high titers of anti-HCV antibodies, resulting in a broad spectrum of neutralizing activity against multiple HCV genotypes and escape variants. Its mechanism of action involves direct neutralization of circulating HCV particles, thereby reducing the risk that the new liver graft will become re-infected after transplantation. Civacir has been evaluated in phase III clinical trials for its efficacy and safety in this setting and has received orphan drug status and fast track designation from regulatory authorities[1][2][5][6].
