CJCV1 is a monovalent capsule-conjugate vaccine candidate developed by the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command for the prevention of Campylobacter infection, a leading cause of bacterial diarrhea. The vaccine is composed of the capsular polysaccharide (CPS) from Campylobacter jejuni strain 81-176 (CPS81-176) chemically conjugated to the mutated diphtheria toxin cross-reacting material 197 (CRM197). This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigen into a T-cell dependent antigen, thereby enhancing immunogenicity and inducing immunological memory. CJCV1 is typically administered via intramuscular injection and has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials both with and without an aluminum hydroxide (Alhydrogel) adjuvant to assess its safety and ability to elicit protective immune responses.
