Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CKD-398 is an orally administered drug developed by Chong Kun Dang Pharmaceutical. It is an incrementally modified version of empagliflozin. As a sodium-glucose transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, CKD-398 works by blocking the reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys, leading to increased glucose excretion in urine and reduced blood glucose levels. This mechanism is similar to other SGLT2 inhibitors used in diabetes management. It has undergone Phase 1 clinical trials to evaluate its pharmacokinetic profiles and safety in healthy volunteers under fasting conditions, completed in May 2021. According to information from March 2025, CKD-398 has progressed to Phase 3 clinical development for diabetes mellitus. The drug is classified as a small molecule and belongs to several therapeutic classes including antihyperglycaemics, benzhydryl compounds, cardiovascular therapies, chlorinated hydrocarbons, cyclic ethers, glucosides, heart failure therapies, and urologics.
