CKD-497 is an orally administered small molecule drug developed by Chong Kun Dang for the treatment of respiratory diseases, particularly acute upper respiratory tract infections and bronchitis. It is derived from the rhizome of Atractylodes japonica and the fruits of Schisandra chinensis. The drug exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) signaling pathway, leading to reduced production of proinflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), Interleukin 6 (IL-6), Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and Interleukin 8 (IL-8). Preclinical studies have shown that CKD-497 attenuates airway inflammation and mucus production in animal models of asthma and particulate matter-induced lung inflammation. In phase 2 clinical trials in patients with acute bronchitis or upper respiratory tract infection, CKD-497 demonstrated mild but significant improvement in symptoms among patients with more severe phlegm[1][2][3][4][5][6].
