CL-1-19-1 is a synthetic peptoid ligand developed by researchers at the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas at Tyler. It was identified via a phenotypic cell-binding screen of a combinatorial chemical library to selectively bind to cancer stem cells (CSCs) characterized by a CD24-/CD44+/ALDH+ phenotype. CL-1-19-1 has been shown to bind to CSCs in both breast cancer and prostate cancer models, allowing for the isolation and characterization of these therapy-resistant, highly tumorigenic subpopulations. While CL-1-19-1 itself does not exhibit significant therapeutic activity, it has been utilized as a targeting moiety in conjugates, such as a 'hunter-killer' peptoid-peptide conjugate with (KLAKLAK)2 to induce apoptosis in CSCs, and in gold nanorod conjugates (AuNR-CL-1-19-1) for photothermal therapy.
