Overview

CL184 is a monoclonal antibody cocktail consisting of a 1:1 protein mixture of two human anti-rabies virus monoclonal antibodies, CR57 and CR4098. Developed by Crucell Holland BV (now part of Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson), it was designed for rabies post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). The antibodies specifically target the rabies virus glycoprotein to neutralize the virus, serving as a potential alternative to human rabies immune globulin (HRIG). Although it reached Phase 2 clinical trials in healthy adults and adolescents, development was discontinued due to insufficient breadth of coverage against diverse rabies virus strains.
