Overview

CL2020 is an investigational cell therapy product composed of Multilineage-differentiating Stress Enduring (Muse) cells, which are endogenous, non-tumorigenic pluripotent stem cells. Developed by Life Science Institute Inc. (a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical Group), CL2020 is being evaluated for its regenerative potential in various acute and chronic conditions. Muse cells are characterized by their ability to home specifically to damaged tissue sites by sensing sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) via the S1PR2 receptor. Once at the site of injury, these cells can differentiate into cells of all three germ layers (ectodermal, endodermal, and mesodermal) to replace damaged cells and promote functional tissue repair. Unlike induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), Muse cells do not require genetic manipulation and have demonstrated a low risk of teratoma formation in clinical studies. The product is typically administered via intravenous injection, allowing the cells to circulate and home to areas of inflammation or injury.
