Overview
*Cladosporium herbarum* is a common filamentous fungus (mold) whose extract is utilized in clinical medicine as a biologic agent for the diagnosis and treatment of allergic respiratory diseases. As a significant aeroallergen, it is a frequent cause of fungal sensitization in patients with bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis. In diagnostic settings, the allergen extract is used in skin prick tests (SPT) to identify specific IgE-mediated sensitivity. Therapeutically, it is employed in allergy immunotherapy (AIT), where it is administered in gradually increasing doses to induce immune tolerance and reduce the severity of allergic symptoms. Beyond its clinical use, *Cladosporium herbarum* is studied for its role in environmental health and its potential applications in bioremediation, such as the degradation of fungicides like imazalil in industrial effluents.
