Clamovid

Clamovid is a combination antibiotic product containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, developed and marketed by the Malaysian pharmaceutical company Hovid. Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic, broad-spectrum penicillin-class antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that irreversibly binds to and inactivates beta-lactamase enzymes, which are produced by resistant bacteria to degrade beta-lactam antibiotics. By combining these two agents, Clamovid effectively extends the antibacterial spectrum of amoxicillin to include many organisms normally resistant to amoxicillin and other beta-lactam antibiotics. It is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including sinusitis, otitis media, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections.
