Clareon PanOptix Pro + Clareon Vivity

Clareon PanOptix Pro + Clareon Vivity refers to a 'mix-and-match' intraocular lens (IOL) implantation strategy used in cataract surgery. This protocol involves the bilateral implantation of two different types of lenses manufactured by Alcon: the Clareon PanOptix Pro, a trifocal IOL, is typically implanted in the non-dominant eye to provide high-quality near vision, while the Clareon Vivity, an extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOL, is implanted in the dominant eye. The Clareon PanOptix Pro utilizes diffractive optics to provide three focal points (near, intermediate, and distance). In contrast, the Clareon Vivity uses proprietary non-diffractive X-WAVE technology to stretch and shift light, creating a continuous range of vision. This combination is designed to optimize the patient's range of vision from near to distance while minimizing common side effects of trifocal lenses, such as glare and halos, by utilizing the EDOF lens in the dominant eye. The Berkeley Eye Center is evaluating this specific combination in clinical trials to compare its visual outcomes against bilateral trifocal implantations.
