Clarithromycin Accord is a generic formulation of the macrolide antibiotic clarithromycin, developed and manufactured by Accord Healthcare. It exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, specifically targeting the 23S ribosomal RNA to inhibit RNA-dependent protein synthesis. This mechanism prevents the elongation of the peptide chain, effectively halting bacterial growth. While widely approved for respiratory tract, skin, and Helicobacter pylori infections, Clarithromycin Accord has gained specific attention in clinical research led by Hvidovre Hospital.
