Claudin-4 is a member of the claudin family of tight junction proteins, which are frequently overexpressed in various epithelial malignancies, including ovarian, pancreatic, and gastric cancers. Antibodies targeting Claudin-4 are being investigated for their potential as both diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic agents. In a therapeutic context, anti-Claudin-4 antibodies may function through antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC), or as part of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) to deliver cytotoxic payloads specifically to tumor cells. In research and diagnostics, these antibodies are used in immunohistochemistry (IHC) to assess Claudin-4 expression levels, which has been linked to prognosis and therapy resistance in cancers such as epithelial ovarian cancer.
