Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clavogenix 625 is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combination product marketed by Nilegenix, a generic pharmaceutical company based in India. It is a formulation of amoxicillin, a semi-synthetic beta-lactam antibiotic, and clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Amoxicillin works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) to inhibit the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis. Clavulanic acid is included to overcome bacterial resistance mediated by beta-lactamase enzymes; it binds irreversibly to these enzymes, preventing them from degrading amoxicillin. This combination is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissues.
