Clavpen

Clavpen is a combination antibiotic product developed and marketed by Moral Pharmaceuticals. It consists of amoxicillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, and clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Amoxicillin works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial lysis. Clavulanic acid acts as a suicide inhibitor of bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes, which would otherwise degrade amoxicillin, thereby extending the antibiotic's spectrum to include beta-lactamase-producing resistant strains. Clavpen is administered orally and is indicated for a wide range of bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and dental structures.
