Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ClearCare is a hydrogen peroxide-based contact lens care solution developed by Alcon (formerly Ciba Vision). It is designed for the cleaning, disinfection, and storage of all soft (hydrogel and silicone hydrogel) and rigid gas permeable contact lenses. The system utilizes a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution that provides deep cleaning and effective antimicrobial action through oxidation. A key feature of the ClearCare system is the use of a specialized lens case containing a platinum catalyst disc, which neutralizes the hydrogen peroxide into a preservative-free saline solution over a six-hour soak period. This preservative-free end-state makes it particularly beneficial for patients with ocular surface sensitivities or those experiencing dry eye symptoms associated with contact lens wear. In clinical research, such as studies conducted by the University of Waterloo, ClearCare has been evaluated for its ability to improve comfort and reduce dryness in symptomatic silicone hydrogel lens wearers with myopia.
