Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clearside Biomedical is developing a preclinical small molecule program for the treatment of geographic atrophy (GA), an advanced form of dry age-related macular degeneration. This program focuses on modulating pro-inflammatory cells, specifically targeting immune cells such as mast cells, microglia, and macrophages that accumulate around GA lesions. The drug is administered via suprachoroidal injection using Clearside's proprietary SCS Microinjector technology. This delivery approach is intended to provide targeted drug distribution to the retina and choroid, potentially improving efficacy in GA—which is considered a primary choroidal disease—while minimizing systemic exposure and side effects in the anterior segment of the eye.
