Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clec4d-neutralising antibody is a preclinical monoclonal antibody being developed by the University of Edinburgh for the treatment of organ fibrosis, specifically kidney fibrosis. It targets C-type lectin domain family 4 member D (CLEC4D, also known as MCL), a pattern recognition receptor predominantly expressed on myeloid cells, including a novel population of pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic Arginase-1-positive (Arg1+) scar-associated monocyte-derived macrophages. By neutralizing CLEC4D, the antibody inhibits the activation and pro-fibrotic signaling of these macrophages, leading to a decrease in Arg1 and other fibrosis-related gene expression, thereby limiting the progression of progressive kidney disease and tissue scarring.
