Overview

Clerodendrum inerme extract is a plant-derived preparation typically obtained from the leaves, stems, or whole plant of Clerodendrum inerme (L.) Gaertn. (family Verbenaceae). It contains a diverse range of phytochemicals, notably triterpenoids, flavonoids (such as acacetin, salvigenin, kaempferol, 5-hydroxy-4′,7-dimethoxymethyl flavone), tannins, diterpenoids, alkaloids, glycosides, phenols, volatile oils, and steroids. The extract has been investigated for various pharmacological properties, including analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, antimalarial, antioxidant, antihepatotoxic, antimicrobial, antimycotic, cytotoxic, and wound healing activities[1][2][3][4][5][7]. Its mechanism of action is believed to be multifactorial and attributed primarily to its modulation of oxidative stress, inhibition of inflammatory mediators, and antimicrobial activity. Traditionally, the plant is popular in Southeast Asia for local pain, inflammation, skin disorders, burns, and as a febrifuge and uterine stimulant[1][2][5].
