Clerodendrum volubile ethanol extract (CVE) is a research-stage botanical extract derived from the leaves or flowers of the *Clerodendrum volubile* plant, locally known as 'Marugbo' or 'Eweta' in Nigeria. It is primarily investigated for its antioxidant, antidiabetic, and organoprotective properties. Preclinical studies in animal models suggest that CVE can mitigate doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity and hepatorenal damage by reducing oxidative stress markers such as malondialdehyde (MDA) and enhancing antioxidant defenses like glutathione (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Additionally, the extract demonstrates inhibitory activity against enzymes involved in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, including alpha-glucosidase, pancreatic lipase, and glucose-6-phosphatase, suggesting potential applications in managing diabetes and obesity. The chemical profile of the extract, characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), includes various secondary metabolites that contribute to its biological effects.
