Clerodendrum volubile ethyl acetate extract is a plant-derived research compound obtained from the leaves of the *Clerodendrum volubile* plant, a species used in African ethnomedicine. The extract is rich in phenolic compounds, particularly protocatechuic acid, which is considered a key active ingredient. Preclinical research in type 2 diabetic rat models has shown that the extract possesses significant antidiabetic properties, characterized by a reduction in blood glucose levels, inhibition of alpha-glucosidase and glucose-6-phosphatase activities, and improvement in insulin secretion and pancreatic beta-cell function. It also demonstrates anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, including the inhibition of TNF-alpha and pancreatic lipase. While it is studied for metabolic and inflammatory conditions, it is not currently an approved pharmaceutical drug.
