clidinium

Clidinium is a synthetic anticholinergic agent used primarily to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as peptic ulcer disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), colicky abdominal pain, and diverticulitis. It acts by inhibiting the muscarinic actions of acetylcholine at postganglionic parasympathetic neuroeffector sites, with a primary effect on M1 muscarinic receptors. This results in reduced gastric acid secretion and decreased gastrointestinal motility and spasms. Clidinium is often formulated in combination with chlordiazepoxide (a benzodiazepine) for enhanced therapeutic effect in conditions involving both anxiety and GI spasm[3][4][5].
