Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Climavita neo is an approved phytotherapeutic (herbal) medicinal product developed and marketed by Permamed AG, a Swiss pharmaceutical company based in Dornach, Switzerland. Its active ingredient is a dry extract of black cohosh rhizome (*Cimicifuga racemosa* (L.) Nutt., rhizoma) at a dose of 6.5 mg per tablet, with a drug-extract ratio (DER) of 4.5–8.5:1 using 60% ethanol as the extraction solvent. Formulated as an oral tablet, Climavita neo is indicated for the relief of menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, nervousness, and mood disturbances. The biological target of *Cimicifuga racemosa* extracts is not fully elucidated, but the extract is thought to act on central nervous system pathways, specifically serotonergic, dopaminergic, and opioid pathways, rather than directly on estrogen receptors, making it a non-hormonal option for menopausal symptom relief. It is not indicated for osteoporosis prevention. The product is approved and listed on the Swiss specialty list (List D) and is also known simply as 'Climavita'. It is suitable for diabetic patients and contains lactose as an excipient.
