Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination antibiotic regimen consisting of clindamycin (a lincosamide antibiotic), imipenem (a carbapenem antibiotic), and linezolid (an oxazolidinone antibiotic). The combination is used for treating severe infections, particularly those caused by resistant Gram-positive bacteria including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus species. Research has shown synergistic effects when linezolid is combined with carbapenems like imipenem against staphylococcal isolates. Clindamycin and linezolid both inhibit protein synthesis and can reduce bacterial toxin production, while imipenem targets cell wall synthesis. This combination provides broad-spectrum coverage against Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria.
