clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide (Allergan)

Actavis Inc. (a subsidiary of Teva) developed a generic topical gel formulation containing clindamycin phosphate (1.2%) and benzoyl peroxide (3.75%) for the treatment of acne vulgaris. This product is a generic equivalent of the brand-name drug Onexton. Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, specifically targeting Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes). Benzoyl peroxide is an oxidizing agent with bactericidal activity against C. acnes and also possesses keratolytic and anti-inflammatory properties. The combination therapy addresses multiple pathogenic factors of acne, including bacterial proliferation, follicular hyperkeratosis, and inflammation.
