Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clinsup V is a combination vaginal suppository containing the lincosamide antibiotic clindamycin and the imidazole antifungal clotrimazole. Developed by Resilient Cosmeceuticals, it is specifically formulated for the treatment of recurrent and persistent vaginal infections, including bacterial vaginosis and vulvovaginal candidiasis. Clindamycin acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. Clotrimazole exerts its antifungal effect by inhibiting the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase, which is essential for the synthesis of ergosterol, a critical component of fungal cell membranes. The product is approved for use in India for various gynecological conditions, including vaginitis during pregnancy and as a prophylactic measure before gynecological procedures.
