clinofibrate

Clinofibrate is a small molecule drug of the fibrate class used primarily for managing hyperlipidemia and associated conditions such as dyslipidemia. It is marketed in Japan under the brand name Lipoclin. Clinofibrate acts as an antilipidemic agent with its greatest effect in reducing very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) triglyceride levels. The mechanism of action involves activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), which leads to increased lipoprotein lipolysis, enhanced hepatic fatty acid uptake and β-oxidation, reduced hepatic triglyceride production, and improved removal of LDL particles from circulation[1][3][4][8]. These effects contribute to lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients at risk for cardiovascular diseases[5].
