Overview

Clinoleic is an intravenous lipid emulsion developed and marketed by Baxter for use in parenteral nutrition. It is composed of a mixture of approximately 80% refined olive oil and 20% refined soybean oil, providing a high concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) while supplying essential fatty acids like linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids. The formulation is designed to provide energy and essential fatty acids to patients who cannot be fed orally or enterally. Its high olive oil content is intended to reduce the pro-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acid load compared to traditional 100% soybean oil-based emulsions, potentially offering a more immunologically neutral profile. It is indicated for adults and children requiring total parenteral nutrition, including those with gastrointestinal failure, surgical recovery, trauma, or burns.
