Clinpro White Varnish (3M)

Clinpro White Varnish is a professional-use dental treatment containing 5% sodium fluoride and functionalized tricalcium phosphate (fTCP). Developed by 3M ESPE, it is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of dental caries, tooth demineralization, and enamel white spot lesions (WSLs), particularly in high-risk patients such as those undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment. The formulation utilizes a proprietary 'functionalized' tricalcium phosphate technology, which creates a protective barrier around the calcium and phosphate ions, preventing them from reacting prematurely with fluoride ions in the varnish. Upon application and contact with saliva, the barrier breaks down, releasing fluoride, calcium, and phosphate to the tooth surface. This synergistic release promotes the formation of fluorapatite and enhances the remineralization of enamel, making the tooth structure more resistant to acid-induced demineralization.
