Overview

ClinSupV3 is an intravaginal soft gelatin capsule formulation containing a combination of clindamycin (100 mg) and clotrimazole (200 mg). Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, while clotrimazole is an imidazole antifungal that disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity by inhibiting the enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase, thereby blocking ergosterol synthesis. This combination product is indicated for the treatment of infective vaginitis, including bacterial vaginosis, vaginal candidiasis, and trichomoniasis. ClinSupV3 was evaluated in a Phase 4 clinical trial (NCT01697826) comparing its efficacy and tolerability to an extended-release tablet formulation (ClinSupV3-ER) in women with clinical symptoms of vaginal infection.
