Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CLM001 is a preclinical-stage, nanotechnology-based drug candidate developed by Curlim (a spin-off from the University of Limoges) for the treatment of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1A (CMT1A). It is a proprietary three-component nano-formulation consisting of a curcumin-based active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), cationic beta-cyclodextrins (to encapsulate, solubilize, and protect the API), and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) derived from cotton fibers that act as a "Trojan Horse" carrier to enable intracellular delivery via endocytosis. CLM001 exerts a multi-target therapeutic effect by reducing oxidative stress, mitigating endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and decreasing inflammation, while also restoring a functional and balanced expression of peripheral myelin protein 22 (PMP22) and myelin protein zero (MPZ) to promote remyelination. In preclinical animal models of CMT1A, CLM001 has demonstrated significant improvements in motor nerve conduction velocity, balance, and motor coordination without observed toxicity.
