Clobeta

Clobeta is a topical corticosteroid medication developed and marketed by Saffron Pharma, available in both cream and ointment formulations. The active ingredient is clobetasol propionate, which is classified as a super-high potency (Group I) corticosteroid. It works by binding to cytoplasmic glucocorticoid receptors and subsequently moving into the cell nucleus, where it binds to glucocorticoid response elements (GREs) on the DNA. This action induces the synthesis of inhibitory proteins called lipocortins, which in turn inhibit phospholipase A2. By inhibiting this enzyme, Clobeta reduces the release of arachidonic acid, thereby decreasing the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. It is primarily used to treat severe inflammatory skin conditions, including psoriasis, eczema (including contact dermatitis), lichen planus, and skin manifestations of lupus.
