Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Clobetasone butyrate + oxytetracycline** is a topical combination drug containing clobetasone butyrate, a moderately potent corticosteroid, and oxytetracycline, a broad-spectrum antibiotic. The combination is used in dermatology to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis when secondary bacterial infection is present. Clobetasone butyrate works by reducing inflammation, itching, and redness through modulation of glucocorticoid receptor-mediated gene expression. Oxytetracycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the bacterial ribosome (30S subunit), preventing the growth of susceptible microorganisms. The combination formula may also contain nystatin, an antifungal, in some commercial preparations[3][6].
