Clobutinol

Clobutinol is a small molecule, non-opioid, centrally acting cough suppressant. Initially approved in 1961, it was widely used for the symptomatic relief of persistent, dry, non-productive cough. However, it was withdrawn from the market worldwide in 2007 and 2008 due to significant safety concerns. Studies revealed its potential to cause cardiac arrhythmias by prolonging the QT interval, primarily through the blockade of the hERG potassium channel.
